A Personal Inquiry More Than Two Decades in the Making
Karakas began developing the ideas behind Juicy around 2000, when he started studying personal development, goal achievement, and human potential. Coaching with Bob Proctor in 2009 deepened that interest and expanded his inquiry into spirituality and the principles that shape how people understand themselves and their lives. In 2015, he published Mind Food, an eBook that marked an earlier expression of this ongoing work.
The direction of the book changed profoundly after his wife died of cancer in 2018. The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 gave Karakas time and space to grieve and consider questions that would shape his next chapter: “Who was he now? What did he actually want? What came next?”
Those questions became part of the foundation for Juicy. Although the project had been developing for years, Karakas began writing the book in earnest in 2024. He brings to it more than 40 years of writing experience, alongside a professional career spanning more than 37 years in commercial real estate.
Learning to Feel Good
At the center of Juicy is a straightforward proposition: people are at their best when they feel good, and learning to feel good can become a practice. Rather than promising guaranteed outcomes through a rigid system, the book invites readers to look inward, examine their lives, and discover what gives them a sense of vitality and purpose.
The book's ideas connect with a longstanding tradition of self-inquiry, including the work of American transcendentalist Ralph Waldo Emerson. For Karakas, the process begins with a fundamental question: “What am I, and what am I for?”
The question is not presented as an abstract exercise. It reflects the kind of personal examination that can follow profound loss, when familiar roles and expectations may no longer provide the same direction. Juicy grew out of Karakas's effort to understand that transition and explore how a renewed sense of purpose might emerge from it.
Reinvention does not have an expiration date.
A New Chapter Built on Experience
Karakas's professional and community experiences remain part of this next chapter. His career in commercial real estate, approximately 20 years of community involvement with the Brantford Chamber of Commerce, and service on the city's Economic Development Advisory Committee have all informed his perspective.
He describes Juicy as his strongest work to date and the book he most believes can help others. Its central invitation is to approach life with greater awareness, question assumptions, and remain open to the possibility of change.
The book is expected to be available in softcover, hardcover, and electronic formats. Readers can visit the official website, juicylife.ca, to join the waitlist and follow announcements about its release. A second personal development book is also expected in 2026.
